How much does it cost to take part? There is an entry fee of £10 per person, or for those entering in a group of 5 or more entry is just £7.50 per person. This covers the cost of holding the event. This means that all the sponsorship money you work so hard to raise can go directly to Rowcroft.
Who can enter? You have to be 18 or over to enter the Bays Drag Olympics, and, of course, you have to be a bloke….in a dress!
Why can only men take part? We organise the very successful ladies-only event the Big Midnight Walk which started in 2008. The men told us they wanted an event of their own, so we came up with the Bays Drag Olympics! We hope that everyone will get involved as we need the ladies to volunteer to help us out on the day!

Do I have to wear dress? In a word, yes! We want all of you to really get into the spirit of the event, the sillier the better! No dress, no entry into the event! We want to see mini skirt, tights, bras, make-up, wigs, sparkly ball gowns….nothing will be too much! But please, for safety’s sake no running in heels!
Where should I go shopping for my outfit? Make your way to one of our ten brilliant Rowcroft shops, which are crammed full of bargains! If you visit one with your sponsorship form, you will receive a percentage off your total shop, armed. Be sure to get everything you need, including the all important jewellery and hand bags to finish the look!

Group Entry
Can we enter as a group? Absolutely, the more the merrier! For groups of 5 or more, you will pay just £7.50 per person entry fee. However, you will compete in the Olympics singularly. Your group can enter on the day into our other competitions, such as the tug of war and the relay race. Can we raise sponsorship money as a team? Yes of course! But please ensure when you send your sponsorship money and forms to us that you clearly state the names of all those in the group, so that we can record your donation.
On the day
What time will the event start? We will ask all drags to arrive at 1pm. This will be to register your arrival and get your number badge. The one mile race will commence at 2pm.
What should I bring with me? You will be sent a pledge card nearer the time, which will we ask you to record the total amount on your sponsorship form. Please bring this with you. Apart from that all you need to bring is your group of supporters to cheer you on!
Do I bring my sponsorship money with me on the day? No. We will add up all the pledges on the day and keep a running total of how much has been raised. After the event, we ask you to gather your sponsorship money and send it into us as soon as possible after the event.
Can a mate who hasn’t registered take part with me? We feel quite strongly that those taking part in the event are those that have worked so hard to prepare and raise sponsorship. We politely ask that you invite your friends to come along and support you, but only registered participants will be allowed to compete.
What will happen on the day? All drags will run in a one mile qualifying race around Torre Abbey Meadows. The top performers will go through to our first heat; a 100m skipping rope sprint. Again, the winners of this heat will go through to the egg and spoon race (with a twist!). The third heat is a good old fashioned sack race, which will be followed by the final. The winner of which will be crowned the Bays Drag Olympic Champion! In between the heats will we have competitions for groups, including tug of war and a three legged relay. We are also holding a drag beauty pageant to find our Miss Bays Drag 2010!
Please note events and heats are subject to change.
Can I have a drink before the event? We would advise everybody to steer clear of the booze until they have finished competing. After which, Bays Brewery will reward you with a cold pint of locally brewed beer (or soft drink)! The bar will be open throughout the event for you and your supporters to enjoy!
What happens if I hurt myself? The Red Cross will be on site during the day to assist anybody who requires first aid treatment. If you feel you require attention please make yourself known to event staff or the volunteer team who will assist you.
What else will be going on? There will be music and entertainment for everyone taking part and those who have come along to support you. Bays Brewery will be on site selling beers and soft drinks, of which a percentage of sales will be donated to Rowcroft. There will be refreshment stands and something to keep the little ones entertained.
Can I bring my dog? As long as your dog is kept on a short leash at all times and you clear up after them, your dog is welcome onto Torre Abbey Meadows. However, please bear in mind it is likely to be very busy and noisy with children around and (hopefully!) hot. Unfortunately, you will not be allowed to compete with your dog!
